By the title, you might think this a tutorial on how to wash your brushes with your washing machine and dryer... but no, this is a DIY project to make something that you can use to wash your brushes and then use it to dry them, too.
Not this type of washer and dryer! ;) |
Even though I know it is super important to wash my brushes out, I rarely do, because:
1. I am lazy
2. It takes too long for them to dry, and I don't like doing my makeup with damp brushes.
I came up with this DIY when I saw secretlifeofabionerd's video on Youtube. Here is the link to the video She used a plastic clipboard, but I wanted to have mine hold my brushes for them to be able to dry. Usually when I wash my brushes, which is every couple weeks, at most...I leave them on my counter to dry. With the basket, you can hang it on a hook or shower ring by the handles and put it in a sunny place to dry. This project is super easy to do, and it makes washing your brushes a lot easier.
Materials
-Plastic basket with holes and handles (I got mine at Target for $4.18- you can get cheaper ones, but I wanted a larger one to hold my brushes. Mine is 7"x 9")
-Glue gun (I used a fat one and a skinny one to make different sized grooves and dots)
-Glue sticks
-Shower ring/hook to hang it to dry in the shower
-Baby soap to wash the brushes/any other soap you usually use to wash your brushes
-Your dirty brushes!
First, hang the hook or shower ring in a sunny place (I put mine on my shower wall- in the one we do not use).
-Baby soap to wash the brushes/any other soap you usually use to wash your brushes
-Your dirty brushes!
All you have to do is make different sized dots, squiggles, and lines with the glue gun. If you are like me, there will be lots of glue strings... No worries though, just use a sewing thread remover (or your hands!!) to take the strings off. And... you're done!!
Yes, a bit messy looking... but it works great!! |
To use the washing basket, lay it inside of sink and run water over it. I would suggest having two plastic cups nearby, to hold the brushes when they're dirty, soapy, and then clean! Once the water is lukewarm, squirt some baby wash (or other soap) into the basket. For each brush, run them along the dots and lines in sweeping motions. Have all of them in one of the cups at the beginning. Then as you wash each one, put them in the other cup. Wash the basket out once you have washed all of them. Next, keep the water running while you scrub each brush against the dots again to rid them of soap. Dry out the basket, put all the clean brushes in it, and put it on your hook. You're all done and your brushes are squeaky clean!
Leave the brushes overnight, and they will be all ready for you to use in the morning! Watch the tutorial video, linked below, and keep watching for new posts!
